and, boy, this site has truly changed my life. not kidding.
5 years ago i was doofing around with a new camera i bought for myself after i got a job i really really wanted. turns out the job sucked, but the camera was great.
after reading and learning and reading and learning and submitting and reading and trying and failing and, most importantly, watching all of you guys best me, i've absorbed so much. in fact, largely because of what i have learned on this site, i now count photography as a major part of my freelance income. i've taken over leadership of a local photo club, organized shows and art fairs, and am really building a solid client base.
i still want to break in a few new areas, but i know that i'll be able to based on the mad skillz i've acquired here. it's really been a fantastic resource.
while we bitch about trolls and whiners and scores and ribbon hogs, it's easy to forget how much you absorb just by spending time here. this community can make such a great impact on people and yet so much of our efforts are focused on being negative that it drives participants away. it's easy to get sucked into that, but i urge you all not to.

Five years... hoo boy, that is a looong time in internet terms. Congrats, and here's hoping that in five more years, we're toasting your tenth!
I have a 5-year milestone coming up here in just 10 days too! |

Wow, 161 people signed up with DPC between muckpond and kirbic. DPC was growing fast early on. |

I had my 5 year in april. I've stayed with dpc longer than any job I've had, I think. :) |

here you are celebrating your 5th bday at dpc and here i am celebrating my beginning. now i'm the one "doofing" around with my new camera. :-)
by the way, you're doing a great job in the leadership role of our local photography club!

Not me, I've spent a lot of time here and I haven̢۪t learned anything. However, when I got here I was already so smart it was scary. If you ever reach the peak of perfection, as I have, then you will see that it becomes very difficult to get any better. It's a real burden.
