I entered this into the Free Study XII

I had thought it would garner a spot in the top 100. It finished above average (in the 5.8 range). Not a bad score but it is the placement (245 out of 678) that surprised me. Although it was pointed out that it had two flaws (see Photographer's Comments) I still think it is a wonderful & being in the right place at the right time shot.

I am also pleased with the the other shot I managed to capture several minutes after the above shot was taken.

I really felt this would have done a bit better.

I thought I had something special here.. Turns out, it was just ok.. I think this must have been one of those moments that was fascinating to watch in real life, but just so so as a picture.

This probably got the score it deserved if you didn't know the background and the fact it was a 'real' rather than set up shot. Its now 12 months since I lost my daughter - I'm glad I took this shot.

I knew this one would not do well, but the Challenge was "Why" and this is our constant "Why". My husband's nails though icky and stained, are that way because his entire life is wound up in one three year old little girl who depends on him to keep her alive.

The vignette effect is straight from the camera, the focus such that you can even see the small pin pricks on each of her fingertips from the 6-10 times a day her blood gets tested. Though yes it was shot on purpose it wasn't posed this is our daily existance. But it's not pretty.

This one's still pissing me off, it's one of my favorite shots that i've taken so far.

Most of mine were either overrated, or clearly got what they deserved. This one surprised me-

I couldn't pick just one. Perhaps I'm a tad "gloomy" for the average DPC voter...not sure.

easily explained: the posthumous curse.

At 4.4130 and 357 of 369 (3%), in the Negative Space challenge, I was pretty disappointed with the results for this. Obviously some just plain didn't like it (can't imagine why ;-p). I liked that you could look at it as colored dots on a black background, or a book cover (Dr. Seuss's "Oh the Places You'll Go!) as seen through holes in a crate.

I'm still trying to find something - anything the voters will like...

I gave this photo a 10 and marked it a fav. I loved this photo and was disappointed to see where it landed.

I'm thinking it might have done better in the other challenge - macro. I guess for negative space, people were thinking negative space more all together in one place.
