Hey funsters.
May is racing towards us - has anyone got a cool side-challenge idea?
Last month we came up with the 'Creative Choice' side challenge which saw everyone do 30 days of their choice.
I've LOVED it - and don't want to loose my momentum - so if anyone has an idea or a plan, please share. |

I don;t have the time to shoot a 31-a-month-challenge, but I do have an idea for ya ;)
Try having a photo, made at the 1st of May, published in the paper / magazine or something like that. No 31 photo's, but an interesting project perhaps? |

Cool idea Han - for others - GRIN!
The thing I LOVE about side challenges is that I truly let my creativity run free, and for me if I thought I was shooting 'for' someone/something else (like to sell it), then I know it would be a different experience. |

Who says you can't with this? And it can also be a good experience, but in a different way.
This was an assignment we had for photo-school. Everybody did it. And it was amazing to see my own photo in the paper. It was not an assignment for the paper, but free work! |

i dunno if this has been done before, but i'd be up for a 31 days of "scene it" side challenge. evry day choose a different scene out of a movie/comic/book/song and creatively convert it into an image. |

Photograph anything in your backyard.
Take a shot of any building you find interesting.
We could do weekly themes for the month like colours, the alphabet, wooden objects, metal, glass etc.
Reflections of reflections.
People's backs, never include their faces.
Vehicles in movement.
Doorways, arches.
Stairs.

First Idea; Why don't we follow the Alphabet.....
Not the letters as images but finding starting with each letter of the alphabet.
Starting with the letter "A" first, and take a photo of an "Apple", as it starts with the letter "A".
A for Apple
B for Bread,
C for Cat,
D for Dog, until we done the whole alphabet, with each letter representing a item, a thing, or an object.
There are only 26 letters of the Alphabet, so we could do a couple of extras of something strange and different with a couple of repeat letter for the last few days.
What do you think of that idea.....
Second Idea; "Candid Street" photography.....
Third Idea..... "Things you LOVE and HATE" on alternate days an image about something you LOVE and the next day something you HATE, repeating this until the the 31 days are up..........

How about shooting what you aren't good at, but want to learn? For me I'd love to be able to do portraits or candids but I'm not too good at it.
I'm not committed to another side yet because I tend to deprive myself of sleep during these things, yet I end up with some good stuff too. |

I like mad_brewer's idea. I tend to stick to what I like, I need to step out of my comfort zone, actually I'm getting kind of bored with my flowers and birds right now. I'd like to do a challenge that would keep up with my attention span! :p The idea I've been throwing around in my head is to post shots straight from the camera and get comments, then go back and use the comments to edit the photo. Kind of like a before and after I guess. |

I wouldn't mind trying to improve my portrait shots. Don't know if I can keep up with one a day. My March and April challenges have been fun but it was really hard to try to take a photo a day. I usually ended up setting one day a side and shoot multiple shots just to keep up. I do love the side challenges though. |

If I end up doing this one, I'm thinking that I won't kill myself trying to get one every day. I even missed a few days in the current challenge and I'm OK with it. |

How about 31 days of "Terrorist Reconnaissance"? Conspicuously take photos of bridges, government buildings, airports. Bonus points for photos of club-wielding cops and a free membership renewal to anyone who gets tased. ;-) |

I find this idea intriguing, but aren't you then stifling your own ideas and creativity? What I'm getting at here is that much of the work in pp is trying your own ideas on the original pictures and seeing where they take you. My suggestion would be to do some of your own processing and then solicit feedback. Just a suggestion; do what what works best for you. |

LOL
And we have to dress up like T's too? Then we can show our mugshots....after we're released on bail.
I like the straight from camera idea. No post processing at all though.
As for portraits. There's only one reason I lack experience at it, lack of models. My son is truly tired of posing for me so that leaves....me. |

Actually Jac, you've hit the nail on the head for me.
I was thinking of doing people's backs - I just love them - so I may go that way.
Would anyone else be interested in another month of Creative Choice - each person choosing their own subject?
It worked REALLY well this month - it's a low pressure situation with full editing options.
And of course that way we can see Art participate ... well for as many days as he can before he gets hauled away - GRIN! |
