I receive my new issue (October) of Popular Photography magazine today and immediately recognized the cover photo - I was 99% certain it was Frank Melchior's ( caba). So I checked his portfolio and then his website and found the pic! Then I looked inside the mag and found his name.
Here's a shot of the cover:
CONGRATULATIONS, FRANK!! That's a very highly circulated mag. |

| ...in my excitement for Frank, I failed to actually look inside the mag and now I see there is a whole article about Frank on pg 54! He even mentions DPChallenge! |

That is awesome in so many ways...
Frank, how was it that they came across your picture? Fill us in man..

That's awesome!
I got my copy of the magazine yesterday, and I loved the cover shot having been to this location last summer. I read the article about how most visitors don't think to shoot this kind of vantage point, and I was thinking, "Yeah, well I've seen this shot before on DPC, it's not THAT original!" Now I realize that this IS the shot from DPC -- how cool!
This shot inspired me to try the same thing when I visited Kerry Park, and I failed miserably :) It was raining when I was there, and I was trying to cover my equipment. My result is way too embarrassing to even post here!
Anyway... congrats -- this is huge!! |

That's way cool! The image used, however, is actually this one from his portfolio, not the one entered in the challenge:

Thanks everyone, It was a suprise for me to make the cover, I knew they were doing a story as PopPhoto contacted me after finding the image on my website. As some of you know I'm a cancer patient now and that has limited my shooting time, but I celebrated this with a new D300 which should arrive today. BTW, that's the same inmage that won Digital Camera mag POTY contest. I'm glad they put a plug for DPC.
