I'm curious about the discrepancy - not trying to give you a hard time, but I wonder about this (noted in an earlier post as well) - why do you have 29 more photos selected than critiqued? |
I first want to note that I incorrectly stated above that we have two weeks... it's really only one week.
One way that I could see somebody missing one is that they select it just before the week ends and aren't able to finish their critique before the time is up. I typically assign a photo and look at it and create my comment in a separate word document, and spend somewhere around a 10-30 minutes evaluating things. Sometimes it takes less time, depending upon what all the other comments say.
The critique that I missed I assigned one and then didn't finish in my first go and forgot to get back to it before rollover (although I did ask SC what the photo was and went back after it was removed from the queue and gave it one). |

Originally posted by glad2badad: Yeah, the numbers in the earlier post surprised me (seemed high). I can see starting one and then rollover comes and wipes it out - that makes sense. If what you point out about selecting an image, then leaving it for a day or two, and then it gets wiped out (without a rollover), then something in the system doesn't seem right. |
I could test it I suppose to see exactly how long it stays there and then go do the critique separately. I did have a few cases where I had two sessions open and ended up critiquing the one that wasn't in the queue (same image) and had to get SC to fix it (this was early on and was simply an error), so that meant at least 1 was critiqued but not included in the stats. But you know, like everyone else I get busy, sometimes I forget I have one selected and then rollover comes and goes. I suppose a 75% hit rate isn't that good, but still recently, I've been doing a lot more than many in the club.

Looks like the midweek rollover deletes older requests as well, I went to bed last night with this...
You have critiqued 10 out of the 10 photographs you have selected in the past two weeks.Your last critique was on July 22 2009.
And tonights its this...
You have critiqued 10 out of the 11 photographs you have selected in the past two weeks.Your last critique was on July 22 2009.
I thought tonights image was different to the one I left last night lol.Like others, I tend to view an image for a while before commenting. Maybe I could make a comment on the image saying 'critique will arrive within 24 hours'? that way the critique counts and I can take my time. |

Wow, I go out of town for a few days, check in and see the queue is cleared. |

HUGE props to macrothing for almost single-handedly clearing the queue! And the comments are very well thought out - I think they provide pretty much exactly the kind of thing people who check the "Critique wanted" box are looking for. Excellent work!! |

Oops - Did I do something wrong?
....who knew the bucket would empty - there must be thousands in the archives waiting for a critique... or that an empty bucket is a bad thing?
(and thanks Melethia) |

An empty bucket is a VERY GOOD thing! You did well! We're all quite impressed, actually. And the critiques "fall out" of the bucket if there's a rollover before they all get done. Otherwise the bucket would be very full indeed.
Definitely a good thing. :-) Thanks! |

You have critiqued 17 out of the 18 photographs you have selected in the past two weeks.Your last critique was on July 28 2009.
Last week I lost an image I had on hold during the Tuesday rollover, are there 8 kind soles that want to kill the queue with a critique each? I'm bushed. |

Supposedly. I could not conform to the predetermined critique format. I sorta refused to discuss the required obvious things like whether or not the image was in focus or the rule of thirds had been properly used or whether the obvious things were obvious. I went through a phase where I felt it was important for the requesting photographer to include their own thoughts and objectives with the image in the photographer notes when they posted the photo. When critique is specifically asked for and the person giving the critique has no idea what type of feedback the photographer may want, It could be a real time waster for the person giving critique. I left that as my basic comment on a few of the photos. I was reprimanded for that. I changed my approach and left other types of useful feedback for the photographer, but it apparently wasn't good enough so I was banned from the critique club. I sorta went full-circle I guess. It's ironic, because I started the critique club :)
I still believe my critique is very worthwhile and I still enjoy doing it. I just don't do it here anymore. I have learned a lot about giving and receiving critique, so I have been doing it for the photography students at the local community college since I'm a member of their advisory board. It's not a shot in the dark with that program because I know what their objectives are and they are fully cooperative if I ask them what their objectives were when I don't know. I still find myself learning and improving my own photography by giving critique.
