My name is Michael. I'm new to dpchallenge as well as photography as a whole (I have no formal training). I've only been seriously photographing for about three years, although I seem to be exponentially more obsessed with it as time goes on. I've found I'm happiest when I have my camera with me, and as such, it is with me all the time. I am impressed with the scope of this site and hopefully will be able make some sort of contribution.

Update Button.......I still blame Judi for my addiction.......I now have RSI and are typing this with my nose, cause I hit that button too many time..........run while you still can....

Welcome, Michael. I was impressed by the photos of the delapidated, abandoned buildings in your portfolio. ...unless that's your house, in which case, I apologize for the insensitivity.

I believe there was an article in Rangefinder (or maybe Aftercapture) a while back of similar stuff after Katrina, and it's certainly is beggin' for it. |

My small tidbits of advice:
a) Enter a challenge. No sense sitting on the sidelines when you can play!
b) read the rules THOROUGHLY before entering. I've seen too many perfectly good shots get disqualified for simple avoidable things (e.g. putting your name and copyright info on a shot, entering a picture outside the challenge times, not retaining your original unmodified image).
c) Don't take any of this too seriously. A 10px × 16px image of a blue ribbon is not worth stressing over (so says the guys who doesn't have any 10px × 16px images of any colored ribbon). Have fun and be creative :)

Welcome to the deep end come in the waters fine. I've learned a lot here* and hope you will too.
*lessons learned
-The update button is evil
-0.0025 is a big number specially if its between 5.9975 and 6.0000
-if you can take a macro shot of a bug falling into liquid reflected in a drop of water with an Icelandic background, edit it using topaz, you will achieve the highest score ever.
-Oh yeh, and every body on this site is mad :) |
