I entered this photograph into the Old Car Chalenge and I ended up 91st. the majority of the comments said is this an Old Car.
I am not so stupid as to enter a New Car into an Old Car Challenge !
The Car in Question is a classic Jaguar that is 15 Years Old. Does that qualify as Old on not, I was hoping people would vote on the quality of the Photograph as technically it was sound I thought, but maybe thats my own personal opinion.
I am dissapointed about it and I will live with it, but wheater I stay here at DP depends on your views now I suppose.
I have really enjoyed this site for many reasons and I have learnt so much and embraced other peoples work, but the silly people spoil it.
91st ! Have a look at the others and let me know please.
Cheers.

I could go on and on with a response to yet another inane, whiney "I'm taking my ball and going home" post, but I prefer you just go quietly. I like you, joe, I like your photography also, but this "everybody else is f'd up for not appreciating my photos" is more childish than most of my silly shenanigans. Sorry to be so blunt.
Please stay, Joe. It's not you, it's them.
edited out harshness

Well, I'll take up Art's pitchfork since he's laid it down.
Joe, this has to rank as one of the more inanely whiny "score posts" I've ever seen in here. I can't imagine how you convinced yourself that the voters would accept a 15-year-old car as "old", no matter how well-photographed it is, and this one's very well-photographed...

What Art said.
And I was one of those that thought it was a new car (some people are silly and some purposely enter DNMC shots). It looks like a new car, the current Jagar doesn't look very much different. IMO a 15 year old car is just a used car, in Germany for example it doesn't even qualify as a "youngtimer" for reduced insurance rates.
I stated in my comment that the shot itself is good so stop whining but think twice before you enter. this is dpc world, not the real world. |

Joe, you put in your comments that you knew this would cause a stir. Thinking outside the square on dpc I have found is usually a recipe for that sort of scoring. I have done it myself & got absolutlely hammered. I think the biggest problem with this & I think you suspected it by the comment you put on this entry is what is the definition of old? I freely admit I know very little about Jags but to me this car looks new. The owner has done a great job looking after it but didn't do you any favours for this challenge. |

Classic the Jaguar S-Type is NOT.
It was a failed attempt by Ford to bring back the real classic look of the original S Type which in truth was simply an attempt to face lift the MkII in the first place
It was considered quirky and in fact they are now so cheap it would almost be more cost effective to buy one for a wedding than rent one. |

I would say that if you are becoming bitter at the responses your shots are getting then perhaps you shouldn't be entering in the first place.
If photography is a hobby for you it should bring you pleasure. Clearly entering shots here isn't doing that. If you want to avoid getting mad about challenges in the future, you have two choices the way I see it:
Take each challenge result with a pinch of salt, if you love the photo does it really matter if the voters love it, think it meets a challenge, or give you great scores?
Stop entering challenges, and the disappointment of not scoring well will stop with it. Stick around and enter side challenges, there are plenty of them about, and they're great fun too without the harsh disappointment!

I have heard rumors (mostly from cutout ) that Art Roflmao , posthumous , and judi are the only 3 members of DPC and all the voting, comments, and pictures posted are done by them 3 (normally by remote woodies)
any complaints about low score, bad comments, or if you are just having a nasty day, you should complain to them directly.

Technically to be considered a classic a vehicle has to be 20 years old. So technically if your description of a Classic Jaguar is that car, then you failed. Regardless whether you decide to stay or go is up to you. But really do you need to whine and go on like this? Aren't you better then the average whiney a$$ my photo is so much better then this placement/score whatever. Really Joe get over it or leave, but either way don't go out like this.

I recognized it as semi-old, but well kept. My wife drives a 15 year old Chevy Corsica, and I would have felt it a shoehorn for the challenge. For a personal vehicle, that's old, but I think the understanding of most folks in this challenge was that "old" meant "classic". I would have had to grunge my Corsica up to make people understand it was old. I gave your shot a 6, as the shot was neat and well done, though it didn't wow me. I was surprised to see it come in as a sub-5.
Speaking as someone who has had many under-appreciated entries, I invite you and your ball to stay here and play some more. If you've decided DPC is not for you, well that's ok too. This site does not suit everyone. |

Define Old?? My truck is a 2006 and could be considered old. They redesigned the new trucks. It looks nothing like the old ones. Just another case of peoples inability to think beyond the obvious. I wouldn't worry about it Joe.

You can still go down to your local Jag dealer and buy brand new, a model that looks mostly like the one in your photo. Honestly, without getting into the arguement of whether a 15 year car is old or not, how you expect anyone other than a Jag enthusiast to recognize that as a 15 year old car!?!

You need to pick your battles and figure out what's worth quitting over. It you had a feeling that people wouldn't think it's old, then it doesn't make sense getting that upset.
I've gotten irritated with the fact that people don't think that anything animate could be an object.
I've gotten irritated with the fact that, even though I pointed out that a fossil is a rock, that people still thought it was a shoehorn putting it in a rock challenge (for heavens sake!! what do you think a fossil is?!)
I figured it was a problem when I entered those challenges, it was very annoying, but I knew better and won't make that mistake again. Trust your instincts, and don't blame other people -- blame yourself for knowing better! |

When you are my age, it's hard to look at that car and say what a cool looking old car..... I did not vote but as I was looking through the images my first impression was "that's not old", I do however like the shot. |

See, you DO play the game of "DPC Bingo" like I do! (That's when you try to predict the criticisms your entry will receive and every time a comment hits one, you fill another square.) |

Add to that comment that the car is still in production. This kind of *really* defeats the idea that it's an old car.
Realistically, it's also a replica of an automobile that Jaguar made from 1964-1968; it isn't even technically classic since it slots directly into a retro car.

Mine was 42 years old and I kinda felt it was too new and shiny looking, but it was in the neighborhood so I jumped on it.
I really wanted to do an old rust bucket, that has more the artistic meaning of "old car" to me. Just didn't have time to find one.

Just out of curiosity, where did you get the idea that this car could be 15 years old?
The re-iteration of the S-Type was introduced in 1999, and if the grille is the original one, that's an S-Type R which was introduced in 2003....

but surely saying whether or not you stay is up to the dpc members views is just not fair on dpc members. arnt people allowed to have there free say about a photograph good or bad. i myself have thought if i leave a comment about a picture and the person who took that picture is upset then you would have a situation just like this so i tend not to leave that many comments.
you and you alone have to make the disition whether or not to stay or go.i say stay your a good photographer.
im sorry if this is harsh but i say it how i see it. |
