 A scale house in Vanderbilt - an old mining camp in the Mojave Preserve. This is where trucks would bring the gravel to be weighed.

To take this image, I used studio lights powered with a Vagabond Mini and triggered with PocketWizards. The sky was spectacular, but the temperature was in the low 40s and the wind was howling like a banshee, making it feel below freezing. I could not feel my fingers to press the shutter. But apparently, I did.

Marvelous image here. The little sugar candy clouds over this houase standig like a symbol, the lighthouse of the plains ....

Really nice composition! But not the best. The house should've been in the center. And its a little tilted to the left.

I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.

Positives: This is utterly glorious - wonderful colours, lovely empty foreground, minute-perfect light and a well judged vignette. It feels slightly cool but you can still feel the remnants of a hot day.

Critical stuff: Johanna, I think I've seen another in your Flickr portfolio or blog that I think is even better?

Overall: Stupendous colours win out. 10.

The pink clouds give it a surreal feeling. I like it. Your composition and use of negative space in the foreground just pulls our eye right to the building.
