 This little guy is called a Dolichopodidae aka a long-legged fly.

I spotted this fly out of the corner of my eye and quickly snapped a few shots before it flew away. Unfortunately I failed to adjust my camera settings properly and I ended up shooting this handheld with a shutter speed of 1/30th of a second.

I don't have high expectations for this entry seeing as how the fly is not completely green and contains hues of blue/purple within its body, but I'm submitting it anyway for the sake of curiosity.

I am at a loss for words here. I did not expect to score this well, let alone win a ribbon here. You guys have truly made my week. Thank you for the kind words throughout the challenge. This is one hell of a Birthday gift =)

Excellent work, Bryce! And it always pays to pay attention to your insects err, instincts, even if your settings are all wrong. Wow, a shot this close and sharp, shot handheld at 1/30...I can't shoot any slower than 1/40, and that's handheld and usually braced against something. Happy birthday, glad you got a PB and HUGE congrats on your first ribbon!!

Beautiful macro shot! Love the different shades of green, and the purple ties in with the edge of the leaf. Very nicely executed. Great focus and detail!
