Taken with aperture priority. First adjusted color curves, then adjusted contrast a little. Created a duplicate layer. Using copy layer I went into Virtual Photographer and used a filter called Old Gold. Used overlay at 63%. In the software I adjusted exposure, brightness and contrast, then erased at 54% where the chair was to create the partial desat. Adjusted bottom layer for hue and saturation to give it a bit more pop without overwhelming the old gold overlay. Dodged the wheels and metal, then burned in the door to see the streaks of mold which had disappeared when I used the old gold filter. Dodged above the door in the dark area so the detail there was a little more discernable. Flattened image, resized, adjusted sharpness, and saved to web.
In case you are wondering, I am a hardcore urban explorer. Could not get into Norwich State Hospital and I nearly got arrested when I stepped foot in the woods surrounding the hospital. Belchertown is not so hard to get into. I am currently working on an exhibit of my urbex photography called Left Behind. I hope to finally get some galleries to take a risk with this photography. I have been doing this for 3 years and am still waiting for someone to approve the exhibit. I love urbex, I feel the compositional strength of this photography is incredible, and the rush from poking around these old buildings is like nothing else. Unfortunately, many of the abandoned buildings are being redeveloped, so it is harder to find them. But if I hear of one, or see recent photos on flickr in my area, I definitely like to check it out. |

I like the way you processed this one and thought it would place higher in the challenge. It's an image that makes you wonder what the back story is. Good job. |

I'll bet there are ghosts living there. Like the color. |

Another strong image. Colors just don't seem pleasing to me though. |
