I really like this photo. Partially because of the colors. Partially because of the yumminess. But mostly because it's something I don't do often: bring my camera into a restaurant. I felt awkward taking photos of my banana split, so I only took a few with slightly different perspectives. Luckily I got a shot I enjoyed, as I wasn't planning to order another one :)
Fun (kind of) fact. I brought my 50 1.8 lens in with me. Clicked the button to autofocus, and pop! The insides of the lens busted out! Luckily I had the 15-85 in the car, so I grabbed that and ended up taking a shot at 53mm. Later that night I was able to repair the 50 1.8. Whew.

I love the angle, focal distance, and lighting. I think the lunch box(?) in the background is a little distracting, and the whole image would have benefitted from a lighter table top and/r background.
This is a tough challenge to vote. I'm torn between "what are you trying to do here" and "what do I expect here". Further complicating matters is the question "what would I do here".
What I would expect would be a technically strong piece of eye-candy that would present the dessert in a way that I would want to at least sample it, if not order it. Along these lines I'm looking at technicals: backgrounds, distracting elements, exposure, sharpness. I'm also looking for creativity, imagination, and originality, which can make up for less than perfect technicals.
So, where does this leave me with your image?
This could have been killer, for me anyways, but is ultimately robbed by the background distraction. It could use a little more balance between the lack of details in the shadows and the blown highlights, but not much.
