Voted earlier coming back to comment.
As an abstract study in shapes and color the image would do far better in an abstract challenge. For a food challenge in which typically one wants to clearly see what we eat (if it looks good it's fresh....) it suffers from lack of clear identification. Without the title, I cannot clearly tell with 100% accuracy that these are blueberries. When one follows the saying "Show, don't tell" the imagery is stronger because the audience can readily connect to it. Title should be just icing on the cake (so to speak) and not carry the full weight of telling us what we should be seeing. One thing that throws me off on the blueberries shown here is the color. Only one 'berry' matches the typical color of purple-blue-black while the others are green and make me think that they are grapes. |

Beautiful abstract. Contemporary and tasteful. |

This is one of my favorites! I love the colors and the creative use of abstraction compared to other entries in this challenge. Normally I don't go for the "abstraction by blurriness" technique but you use it to good effect here. The overlap of shadows makes an interesting combination of intermediate colors. |

Lovely colors and nice softness, although I miss the "dessert" feeling here somewhat. |

I would have no idea what this was unless you stated the word in your title. To me they don't look fresh and they don't look like blueberries. I'm sorry but to me this is a poor execution of the challenge. |

Would score better in an abstract challenge, I think. And the blueberry looks not real to me. |

I've come back to this several times, I can't decide if I like it or not. obviously the goal was an oof somewhat abstract. I fear that many will not rate this high as it is not a clear cut dessert...That being said the original challenge stated "photograph something sweet and delicious" so in a way this dmc. I hope it does well for you. |

This is a tough challenge to vote. I'm torn between "what are you trying to do here" and "what do I expect here". Further complicating matters is the question "what would I do here".
What I would expect would be a technically strong piece of eye-candy that would present the dessert in a way that I would want to at least sample it, if not order it. Along these lines I'm looking at technicals: backgrounds, distracting elements, exposure, sharpness. I'm also looking for creativity, imagination, and originality, which can make up for less than perfect technicals.
So, where does this leave me with your image?
I like the image and can appreciate it as art. As for meeting the challenge, well, you know where that is. |
