Thanks for all the guesses - I don't think you should worry about these guys, they are wild ponies of Chincoteague VA.

I guess they're on the skinny side but there's plenty of their usual diet (saltgrass) available to eat. The island of Chincoteague keeps an eye on their general health and provides veterinary care for sick ponies.

This was post-processed and put together using a tiny netbook while travelling - I really couldn't much see what I was doing.

I thought the fact that they were ponies in the water was kind of obvious so since I kept seeing them pair up, I was going for a mystery word more akin to comraderie, togetherness, affection.. the 'one' I really had in mind was horselove! Congrats blindjustice! Sorry if the title hint wasn't terribly direct.

Wild horses, cool! Those poor guys are very skinny. Borders are a bit uneven, but I do appreciate the use of the white, which feels a better fit here than black.

Somebody get those ponies some worm medication! Shots like this would normally bring thoughts of friendship and companionship to mind. But I think the poor health of these animals stands out more to me.
