The Critique Club
The overwhelming feeling I get from this photo is the joy of life- this is a great character at any age and your photo has brought this out. The smile is wonderful and the lack of teeth merely an eccentricity. The cap looks glued on and I am sure he never ventures anywhere without it –I am also sure he is the life and soul of the neighbourhood-well done—it is very difficult to capture personality in a portrait we are all so concerned about the lighting and the pose that we forget the basics!
Your photo does seem to be a bit out of focus but I see from your specs that you shot this at a slow speed and maybe he moved slightly when you released the shutter. The background is nicely out of focus so that it doesn’t distract. The exposure is spot on and I don’t think that I would worry about the shadow over the eyes. There is a huge amount of detail in that shadow—everything is visible –possibly if you had a reflector it might have lightened that shadow. The eyes are slightly out of focus but their colour shines through.
Altogether I think this is a stunning portrait—there are small problems with focus but these problems are overwhelmed by the personality of the portrait—well done

Wow - those are the greenest eyes I've ever seen - like emeralds. The yellow coloring on his skin is very disturbing to me - he looks sick. |

Well, it's a good photo for the song title. I don't like the shadow from the hat. It goes right over the eyes, which are important to the shot, in my opinion. Good job of blurring the background, nothing distracting there. The angle and framing/cropping are good also. Good luck in the challenge. |

Overuse of sharpening. Excess noise which could be removed by a program such as neat image. Interesting subject. jgillard5 |

Well taken photo, but he doesn't look much like any Rosemarie that I remember. (joke, sort of) Songs are more than just titles, I had hoped the picture would reflect the song, not just the snippet that is the title. Very clear shot, it made me smile, too. 6 Swash |

this guy's great. his eyes are young. be sure and print the results page out for him, put it in a frame. teeth are totally overrated, it's all about ice cream and apple sauce. |

I cant put my finger on what it is I like so much about this photo, but I do. Even down to what looks like food stains on the side of his mouth, Great Shot! The only improvement would be better lighting for the shadow under the brim in the hat takes away a little from the eyes. 9
Take my comments for what they are worth for I am just a novice with a new camera. Dodo |
