 An Eurasian Eagle-Owl (Bubo bubo) photographed in flight at the local bird gardens with back-lighting. Great place for practising BiF technique.

I was thinking of entering him in the September 2012 FS but thought the BG was too busy and he was cropped too much in the frame...your thoughts?

Background is nice - I don't see it as at all busy. The crop is unusual, but to me it contributes much to the impact of the shot.

You are one amazing photographer. Beautiful bird. Cropping? Oh, I dunno. The crop emphasizes the looming quality of that dive. I would not like to be the bird's prey.

Impressive eyes and beautiful back light. I don't think the bg is disturbing, but I agree about the crop. This bird needs more space.

Nice exposure Harvey. These Owls have intense eyes. You might have been dinged for the crop more than anything else.
