"When you ethically pursue & photograph that elusive wild animal the moment will live on in your memory forever. If you cheat it won't." [by HarveyG]
Due to being contacted by photographers during voting about my in voting comments I have now become a baghead.

I photograph non-captive wildlife (mostly birds) by trekking far into the African wilderness. Patience, location & subject behavioural knowledge is needed to find, observe, anticipate and time them to get the shot, especially BiF.
Many of the stationary birds you see in my portfolio are hundredths of a second moments between flight and take off or just in flight.
Zoo, "Safari" Park and Penned animals are NOT ''Wildlife'', technically that's Captive ''Nature''. DPC doesn't have a 'Wildlife' category despite 6 Wildlife challenges :(

If you pass through Johannesburg, South Africa, drop me a PM before your arrival. Would love to meet up!
Africa is in everyoneâs blood. Just sit around an open fire at night, look up at the same stars that the Leopard is looking at.
Surprised at DPC Member of the Week (Oct 13-19 / 2013) Thanks KarenNfld !
I've made friends with and interacted with some wonderful helpful togs here. Forgive me if I've missed adding you.

Collectively their (and your) work and critique has inspired me to try new things.
I have met prperold, RianBotes, Ammie, Silent-Shooter, sulamk and herfotoman. I'd like to meet more & to organise a South African DPC'ers get together. If interested send me a PM.
Thank you for the friendships and honest comments, of which both positive and critical are equally appreciated!

Bio gumf: I purchased a Fuji 110 in '76 in Hong Kong but soon moved to a Minolta SRT-101 in '77, then occasionally with the X-1/ XM / XK's in '79-'82. Shot wildlife from the early 80's till today. Did sports, events & beauty pageants for my school's in-house newspaper. Did the D&P myself in the school's darkroom. Got an XG-M in '83 and an XD-7 in '84 (the world's first Aperture & Shutter Priority Mode SLR). I shied away from all the cheap, plastic AF wonder SLR's of the late '80's & '90's & eventually to DSLR in '09. Thanks to my father for instilling the interest as a child, encouragement, loan and gifts of gear. Some of his work here and here.
