When considering this challenge, I didn't just want to take a photo with some distracting objects... I wanted to tell a story!
First, the story was obviously one of rejection. The nail and the burning edge were to be my two distracting elements. I actually wanted less flame, and more red cinder so that I could draw out the reds more and make them more distinctive, but it didn't happen for various reasons.
In terms of telling the story, and including 2 distracting elements, I was fairly happy and confident that it would be well received.
In addition, I decided to throw some more subtle distractions into the mix...
1. I decided to 'double space' inbetween the two words 'describe' and 'hereto' with the intention of making the reader double-take (therefore momentarily distracting).
2. The phrases 'all my remaining possessions', and 'my beloved companions' almost implies that there would be a number of recipients of his other goods. I wanted the reader to find it strange that he was only bequeathing to two people, and almost re-read to see if there was anybody they were missing. I suppose I wanted it to strike the reader as strange that only two people were in his 'circle of beloved'.
I did take a few shots with a crumpled/creased copy of the Will, but the creases really made the writing difficult to read, and I was worried that the viewer would simply ignore the text.
So, overall I was very happy with it upon the point of submission, however, the voting so far is far from encouraging....

I gave you a 1, this is a photo site your image should tell the story not the title or worse the text in it.
Like the last person who did similar in princess bride it need more surrounding setting not just basically a word processed document.
Set it on a nice oak table, roaring fire candle stick etc some context rather than just a thumb |

An amusing image. The thumbnail and the flame... aren't they part of the story. I've looked for other distractions. It will be interesting to read after the challenge voting period what you thought the distractions were. |
