It took quite awhile to find a good convenience store that didn't have that dreary chainstore feel to it. I like Mom'n'Pop operations, and in the country, convenience stores often serve as general stores where you can buy anything from the usual smokes, candy and snacks to gumboots, fishing and hunting equipment to coffee and a lunch counter. Which this one did happen to have, happily.

Like this shot a lot, cause I shot blind! I had the camera and Siggy around my neck when I followed in Ryan (aka Magnumphotography), who was jonesing for java and smokes. So I just wandered around and discreetly hit the shutter button every so often (lens wide open and wb set to auto in that horrible fluorescent lighting) then was more obvious when I shot Red at the counter. I don't think the customer at the lunch counter knew I got pics of him. Ryan's at the coffee counter to the right.

pp: shot RAW, crop, brightness/contrast, vibrance/saturation, minor cloning, dodge and burn, desaturate, more brightness, resize, sharpen, save for web

Post-challenge notes: Thanks all for the comments! Shooting blind is fun! I think the man at the counter was a pastor as he was wearing a suit and a dog collar. Which added to the incongruity :-)

Good lines, good use of the frame, and good eye movement.
If I had to nit-pick I would say get rid of the guy on the right (as he does not add too much). Unless you were looking for that same kind of head pose that both seem to mimic.
Wonderful contrasts, I would have thought this would have done much better.

I really liked this one -- not even quite sure why -- it just resonates very nicely!

I liked this a great deal, the emptiness, the feeling we all know of being in a convenience store that should be mobbed but its strangely empty. Photographically, the contrast, the floor pattern, it's quite interesting.

Such a strange sense of isolation around the diner

Nice so many details to look at, nice exposure and tones and like how the lines in the tiles pull me in

It's great that that guy is wearing a suit.
