My favorite part is the glimmer coming off of what I suspect is water. So sparkly!

From the 'set of his jib' your subject isn't looking forward to his day.
The rest of us can appreciate his dilemma without sharing it.

Oh boy, I love the indecision that this picture gives. It's all for grabs. Cold, early morning, good day, malaise ...

I like the contrast. I would like to know what he is contemplating.

This is the kind of photograph I struggle with - I find it hard to comment on because I have mixed emotions. I can see what other commenters have said: the guy, shoulders high, looking into the world in a frame of black and white, a bit at a loss, the guy nicely on the rule of thirds. But that's all reasoning, and this is not about reasoning. If it were fully abstract I could perhaps connect with it (I like abstract art, many times I can appreciate it more than figurative art). But in a photograph things get in my way - I see noise, not sharp, maybe fringing, blown out, etc.
This is not much help to you, I realize. But it is an honest reaction on your photograph. I hope you can value that.

so many observations to be had...the high shoulders 'protecting him' from the cold, the stern face, the clear light and high shadows, and the cage of wood that separates you...

Uncensored voyeurism aka sneaky candid. Good lines and paparazzi centric grainy goodness.
Sure this wasn't a film scan?

He looks cold. Love the b/w tones and the grain.

The image works. Lights, darks, geometry, the eye is ultimately led to the guy. Not sure I get the title. Am I supposed to?

It looks like he is thinking of warmer times .. the B7w really add to the impact of him looking lonely, sad and wanting to be someplace else. I can never put/show this much feeling into my shots.

This image, along with the title, tells me to find happiness in the moment. Never know if you will have the next morning. His attention is drawn by something beyond our sight, maybe a coffee shop.

Why is it unexprcted, Ben? I like how the roof shape mimicks (sp?) the man's hat. What draws my attention most is how there is so much dirty glass yet there are these sparks of light at bottom left.

It seems as though he is looking for someone....yet he looks alone..

I quite like the way the human figure contrasts against the strong horizontal and vertical lines. The effect of the sun on top adds nicely to the image as well.

Nothing like a talk and walk with an old bugger to straighten you out, they cut cold. I see solitude, searching, introspection and the invigoration of the mid morning sun. Heck what would I know, maybe the towel on my head is too tight, but I like it (your pic that is).

The strong lines and the contrast of dark and light emphasize the bitter harshness of the cold. I wonder what sort of business has brought the man out on such a cold day.
