Beautiful job with getting these 4 in focus. It's like they were hanging out there, waiting for you to come by. |

I like the warm orange/brown leaves against the cooler grey surroundings. It all has a slightly velvety appearance which is appealing. |

I carry only my M9 with one lens when I go on shoots downtown, no camera bag. It forces me to see compositions I would not normally pay attention to. Plus, it really helps to "get to know" that lens better. Each one has their own qualities. I am reinforcing what others have already stated, the precise DOF comp on the colorful leaves with the muted BG make this shot a keeper. Nice work. |

It is fun to read your comments, that you pushed yourself to stick to the 105. In my case, I have to always push myself to change lenses, since I basically tend to put one lens on the camera and leave it there for a month or two or whatever :) I would just LOVE to own that lens, the Nikkor 105! A friend of mine let me try it just a little bit once, and I loved it!
That said. This is a beautiful find! I love the picture. Not much else to say, it is just a peaceful picture with beautiful warm/cool tones, and I like it. |

Just a quick technical question. Reading Harvey's comment, it suggests you did the BG in pp (the monochrome). When I looked at the image I thought the BG colors were natural? Just curios, either way I like the shot. |
The BG colours are natural no desaturating in pp at all. |

I love beech leaves in winter. They provide a wonderful bit of color to the drabness of the woods. The background on this is a bit busy but the details in the leaves are nicely captured |

Love the DoF. The leaves actually look "soft" as opposed to hard and crunchy. Nice capture. |

I like how the light from underneath is giving a lot of definition to the leaves. |

I like the selective desat here. It is both sharp and complimentary to the grey in the BG. It is almost a 160mm f/2.8 on the D90 so for candids it gives you some unobtrusive reach to :)
I battle to do that, leave lenses at home. I generally break my back with 10 lbs (5 kgs) of glass in a LowePro.
I don't have this little gem of a lens and I am oh so keen to get a copy as my Sigma 180mm f/3.5 macro is a bicep buster.

Natural and delicate hues against nearly monochromatic background. Pleasing result. I suggest testing yourself and venturing out frequently with only the 105 macro and explore. |

Mother nature hanging out her wash .. that's what comes to mind when I look at this shot .. lovely color in the leaves and nice focus. |

I think the exercise you described is very good for you - I do the same sometimes and while I usually have a few regrets, I also get some shots I wouldn't even have seen with a different lens. I think the focus on these leaves is very fine - love the warm coppery brown color and the very nice detail. Lovely. |

I think you skillfully put the three leaves in the focal plane, in a triangular composition, with a nice and subtle (color) contrast between the leaves and the branches. Maybe no exciting shot, but certainly pleasing as it is. Don't toss your 105mm just yet! |

well spotted. nice depth of field. Dried up old foliage always takes on the most interesting form. |

aw...I would have managed to find a way to get a bird shot even with the 105....
You nailed the focus and DOF with this one, getting the leaves very nicely isolated against the background. I like how the leaves lead the eye, one by one, from left to right. I quite like this shot. |

Like the idea of this shot maybe better as a portrat format. |

The image itself is not really appealing to me, but I'm quite impressed by the quality of the lens. Really nice focus and sharpness on the leaves and a great background bokeh. Looking forward to see more of you and your lens. |
