Carrying on from the conversation about dangerous game that kasaba started with her scary White Lion staredown here's a White Rhino in flight.
Just make sure you are not also taxiing on the runway ahead of him...or he'll flatten you...
The white rhinoceros is quick and agile and can run 50 km/h (31 mph). Weight in this animal typically ranges from 1,360 to 3,630 kg (3,000 to 8,000 lb). The male, averaging 2,300 kg (5,100 lb) is heavier than the female, at an average of 1,700 kg (3,700 lb).
I kinda wished he was looking my way when I got this shot, but in hindsight maybe not! :)
Not a great shot but photographed in a Nature Reserve in South Africa and I was in my tin can 4x4 that weighs a little less than him. One minute the two were grazing very peacefully and the next second they took off in a major hurry. You have to see it to believe the pace and hear the sound reverberate off their feet. Needless to say I generally stay quite far from them as a precaution.

Great capture! Just as well you got it in flight as I̢۪m sure there would be too much camera shake from the ground movement after it landed. |

Awesome rump. I wouldn't think these things could ever get all fours off the ground at the same time. |

Oh all four off the ground - amazing .. I like not seeing their faces - I can think what I want to then .. are they running ot of fear (doubtful given their immense power) or for fun? Comical to think of then just running off to expend energy - Funny how they tuck their tail in as they run - not held out as a flag heralding their coming - Rhinos are dear to my heart - they look like they were made up of left over pieces - tiny little wiggly ears more suited to a small animal .. huge haunches like an elephant .. the speed of a cat - thank you for your wonderful posting of a wild free beast that is slowly being confined to smaller and smaller ranges due to the stupidity of those who don't understand how sacred all life is. |

All four off the ground - what a shot, and what an experience to see this. |

Maybe not a great shot (to you), but definitely a great experience. Don't forget, for most people in Europe (and USA as well I guess) these encounters are non-existing. If we are lucky (as I am) you can see deer, foxes, dolphins, wales and eagles in their environment but for many people it already is special to be eye-balled by a wasp.
Thanks for sharing these pictures and stories, really like them! |

Aw, geez, Harvey! My dog gets up to stuff like that. But a rhino? How cool is that? |
