I really like the balconies (the site calls them demilune balconies) on this circular building called Carillon Tower. This shot has the shadows that show them off pretty well. below is a detail shot of the balconies,

juxtapositioned against another apartment tower of a different design. There are five balconies per floor and five apartments per floor. Architect was Donald Power Smith and it was built in 1964.

Note that gadget on the topmost floor of the Carillion. What do you suppose it is?
A couple of early guesses suggest a satellite or TV dish. Could be, of course, but this building is supposed to be wired for all communication devises. So, if it's satellite oriented, it must be VERY special. Those apartments at the top are costly indeed!

Very unique. Seems it was built to last too. Love the form and repetition. The (UWA distort) lean to the right is a bit disconcerting for me. Exposure and sky is good. Is that a star (white pixel) you caught top left?

Very clean looking, Alice. If you look at the entire column of balconies, it looks like the back of a spiral notebook :)

How much is the apartment where George Jetson used to live? "D But srsly, this bldg has a strange beauty not often seen in apartment towers, or maybe that's due to the lack of clutter usually associated w/apartment balconies. It looks a little Mediterranean or that might be the sky combined w/the white facade. I am enjoying the vicarious drive-by tour you are giving us, Alice, thank you!

Seems like a building design you would see in the 60's. Your description confirms that. Somehow, they still seem very stylish though!

This is too well designed to be dismissed as an oddity, in my opinion. I like the lihgt on the front balconies which emphasizes their crescent shape. I'd say that "demilune" is French for "half moon".

Sweet. That building couldn't have been cheap to build. According to dictionary.com, "demilune" is a fancy word for crescent shaped.

The thing on the top looks like a typical HD satellite dish. It's possible that even if the building is wired for regular satellite already, the resident is getting satellite from a foreign language provider. For example, one of my Dad's neighbors has a second dish because she gets Greek language programming from some provider that's not DirecTV or Dish.

Beautiful structure. The building looks so clean! Could the gadget be a satellite dish?

What a delight this whole structure is to the eye. The way the balconies are rounded but separated by the flat part of the structure really make them stand out and add optimal privacy. As for the gadget, at first I was inclined to think it was a TV dish too but there is something about it's shape that remind me more of a very sturdy umbrella. Whatever it is, it adds to the fun of this other good find.

An interesting design must have a nice view from the upper level
