"JABS" Just Another Bird on a Stick as we bird togs like to say!
An as yet unidentified Swallow but possibly Juv. Barn Swallow (17 Species in Sub Saharan Africa alone and 5 Martins all with similar patterns) quite some distance from me (they wouldn't let me get closer than about 20 paces) so this is cropped at least 50%. Bright sunlight, a fabulously sharp lens, steady hands (hand held) at a high s/s and my new 16MP D7000. Suddenly that extra 33% MP over my previous DSLR's 12MP starts getting me a few more keepers at distance. Shot at Spioenkop Nature Reserve, Winterton, KZN at 2:56pm
Very little and subtle PP, Topaz Labs DeNoise with 40% detail recovery, crop, @72dpi
Any comment or critique; complimentary or critical are welcome and appreciated. Questions about gear, technique etc. also welcome.

Reading your copywrite notice, I'm moved to say that especially for such an image with minimal clutter, thank you for putting yhour copywright staement in the text instead of on the image itself which ruins is for the viewer. Forgot to mention its it a good shot. |

Lovely Harvey. Those birdies NEVER sit still and are increadibly fast. You did really good to get such a nice picture.
My only suggestion to improve this is to crop out and/or edit out the dark top left corner. I find it distracting, but maybe its just me, I see other(s) like it :-).

Another perfect capture Harvey - the tiny birds are so difficult to get a great shot of (in the wild) as they seem to be able to see you faster and get outta dodge before you can bring your camera up. You must hunt in a lovely spot as so much of your b/gs are all green or close to it. Looking forward to more as usual. |

Lovely. I had no idea there were swallows with blue feathers - I love the iridescence. |

It may be JABS, but it's a very nice bird on a stick. The processing is quite good.

Let me tell you what I like, and I think it's all there deliberately: I like how the bird has room to look into, how the stick is about one third from the right, how the darker area top left balances the bird at right, the catchlight, the focus, the processing which looks a little more relaxed, the iridescent glow of the feathers, the scruffy look from a bird well into the summer season. Lots more than JABS. |
