King of the Hammers EMC race, Johnson Valley, CA
--
This shot was during the "Every Man Challenge" series of the King of the Hammers race this year. These are typically smaller teams, funded by themselves and some minor sponsorship, stock-modified vehicles. Most of the Vehicles were Jeeps of various models. It was a tough race, this particular spot was called "Aftershock" it was a tough section of large boulders and no real way around the main line, the result was a lot of slow moving, winching, and waiting for the race trucks as they arrived at the base of this canyon.
The driver and co-driver communicate with radios wired into their helmets, when they approach obstacles like these the co-driver hops out and directs the driver, as the angle of the vehicle while crossing these rocks usually leaves the driver blind to what is below. Many of these two man or two woman teams did so very methodically, some vehicles inherently more capable than others, it made it a very interesting section of the race to set up at. You can see some more photos in a small selection I put online at www.shutterrev.com

Definitely absurd, but the shot itself isn't very appealing. |

Yes, agreed, although it competes with ridiculousness of going to this type of event :-)
All kidding aside, this is a wonderful image. Perfectly pp'd |
