This is my mother the day after she came out of hospital after having a small stroke. I went and stayed a few days with her during the challenge dates so for much of the week it was just the two of us. She's doing ok. It was a relatively minor stroke and physically she's fine but she's still a bit confused and has lost a lot of semantic association and the ability to read. This will get better i'm sure as she does various exercises but it's quite a blow for her at the moment as reading is pretty much her favourite pastime.

Anyway, not much to say about the portrait. It's a moment i captured late at night with only a side lamp on. The composition is on purpose, of course, as i wanted to use negative space to portray the confusion/loss etc that she is suffering from.

Minimal/Advanced debate... There's not much i'd want to change really. It is what it is in minimal. I'd maybe clone out a couple of tiny marks on the wall. It's obviously not a posed portrait so not really one that can be planned or anticipated. I spot metered to deal with the harsh lighting and to get the high contrast i wanted.

Life... tough. I wanted to post an image of my mother in January, but she died just then, couldn't submit it thereafter. All the best with your mother's recoupment. Give love in abundance.

This has a dark feel to it! After reading the title it makes sense.

I can feel her pain. The composition is something that would normally be off-putting, but for this it is strangely appropriate. I would not have been bold enough to enter this. Well done.
