Well, what an interesting challenge. Sure, I could have taken this image, modified it to widen the histogram, brighten the eyes, etc. But that's not why I took this image (and the 100+ others in this session). I took this image to see if I can do a portrait in the minimal editing ruleset that was a great baseline of a great image to be edited later.
The result, I feel like I nailed it. I have three images I just adore, and it took a good 30 minutes for me to decide between the three.
Sure, it's not a winning image, which will more than likely come from someone with a beautiful model and great lighting. But this is a natural portrait of an 18 month old. Try doing that in the minimal editing ruleset, and then come back and tell me how it went...
I was smart enough while shooting to keep an eye on the histogram. I also set the picture style to a modified portrait mode, where I bumped up the sharpness and saturation a bit. I also made sure to set the white balance to cloudy for this snowy day.
I'm curious to see if I get another validation request. The last 2 minimal challenges I had them because of the 1:1 and 16:9 aspect ratios. This one is 4:3, yet another one of the options that my Lumix provides. |
