I love minimalism, but it's soo hard to do well. I try to make compelling minimalist shots a lot and usually end up deleting them. It's really hard to make something interesting with so little to work with.

Which is why I'm so pleased with this image. Its a total accident.

I walked around with this bowl for three days trying to figure out what to do with it. I've always loved its simplicity. But, it's still a plain white bone colored bowl.

So, when I came home one evening I put the bowl down in a new cubby while I was taking off my coat and thought . . . Huh? How about that?

The next morning I put the bowl back in the cubby where the line of window light crosses through the cubby.

And here it is. Exactly the kind of minimalist shot I've always wanted to create, but never could seem to do well.

So far, I'm really pleased it seems to be doing so well. It's really rewarding when you create something that you can share with others who appreciate it.

Well this is humbling. Fitting I suppose.

Hah! I can't believe this won. I really like it, but I just thought there were such good images entered that it would finish lower. Thank you all. Very very kind of you.

Felicitations! You should check if that bowl is perhaps worth millions. See this article about a similar shaped bowl that was purchased for 3 dollars and turned out to be worth 2.2 million dollars.

Great story - I don't know how many times I've tried to place something and it just doesn't work. Sometimes it just happens and you just need to see it. Congratultions on the ribbon!

Awesome... I didn't vote this challenge, but I just love the way the curve of the shadow is perfect with the curve of the bowl. Very nicely composed and shot. Well deserved.

totally agree, this was really fitting of the challenge, in more ways than one, and I had something like this, not the same, but was told not to enter it, silly hey!

As of this morning, the score was around 6.9. So when it started to drop drastically, I immediately thought you might be eating your shoe! Very kind of you to compare this to your milk shot considering how much I like that shot.

Superbly done, a masterpiece of art, so simple and really elegant, you know I love this type of photo, the lighting, the comp, the perfect tones, all around just awesome and I'm wishing now I did something like this, instant fave from the minute I saw it, 10!

The tones, the composition, the play of light and shadow, the shapes and lines, and most of all the simplicity of the composition - just lovely. One of my top two. 10 Voted earlier; back to comment.
