 Wanted to try something new and different with my portrait. I'm expecting a lot of beautiful model shots with perfect white backgrounds and glorious color. Wanted to go the other direction on this one. Kind of the anti-portrait.

This is my beautiful wife, patiently posing for me and staring into the flash! Single strobe at 1/16th power about 2' away.

Processing steps:

- Import into LR3
- Reduced exposure to darken the image
- Exported to Nik SEP2
- Adjusted global Brightness settings for to reduce highlights and enhance shadows
- Used red filter to bring darker "color" into the lips lighten the eyes.
- Return to LR3
- Adjusted tone curve - skewed curve towards Darks and Shadows especially to make hoodie disappear into background, and a little Lights to lighten face
- Some dodging and burning on the face to even out skin tone
- Reduced clarity to smooth out skin
- A little burning to enhance eyelashes and lips
- Save for Web

Don't expect this "alternative" portrait to do well with the masses. I would like it to, as I like it very much, but suspect a score around 5.5?

like the use of negative space and the overall simplicity of the picture. The image seems a little bit soft to me but maybe that's what you were going for or my monitor is not displaying it as nicely as it could.

I like this one, I like the play between dark and light but the skin might be just a tad too bright and the focus on the eye is just a tad soft.
