Can I point out that this was hand-held and the fly is most definitely alive. Quite the poser. I'm sure s/he was twisting and turning just to show me her good side.

Ummm. Not a bad start, actually.
First 2 votes were 10's, and they stuck! Then down a bit, bit more, bit more...
Currently at 15 votes (obviously very early days) @ 7.7333. And a comment from Oliver (cool!). Well then. This should be a long week.

[Apr. 15th, 2013 03:53:10 AM]

@ Judi - nope! Not Roz, but thanks for the massive compliment mistaking my work for hers!

[Apr. 19th, 2013 06:35:03 PM]

Wow. Slightly over 2 days to go and it's sitting around 7.4. Incredible. And to think I was going to post a shot of a funky spider because after all, this is 'just a fly'.

or were distinct possibilities. Think I'm glad I didn't. Thanks to my teammates and family for convincing me to go with the little green monster. :)

[Apr. 21st, 2013 09:58:18 AM]

This is just nuts. 14 hours to go and it's sitting at 7.45. It's a fly for pity's sake! It will be very interesting to see what happens over the next 14 hours. How far will the famous last day drop take it?

[Apr. 21st, 2013 09:33:17 PM]

@ bvy - you made me smile :)

Thanks everyone for your comments; truly appreciated. Cheers.

?? Judi! How could you say this? Pamb's shot is every bit as nice as many of Roz's shots, and better than some of her stuff that's even won ribbons. Surely you just worded that poorly? Why take back such a nice compliment?

Hi Pam, would you mind detailing the setup for this? Was this just your 100mmL or did you use extension tubes? Natural or flash lighting? flash modifiers etc?

Trying to learn as much as I can about macro photography, and this image is just the kind I'd like to take.

I love the color of the fly against the green. Very electric...

I do wish the front edge/point of the leaf wasn't so overexposed looking.

Great capture.

Though I don't like the subject, this is one of my favorites if not my favorite - the colors are just beautiful - love the iridescence of the fly. Voted earlier - back to comment.

Good golly, this is fantastic! Quite love the color and sharpness. Would love to know how you shot this (lens and if flash or natural lighting was use?).

EDIT: just finished voting, and this is my top entry and sole 9.

Seems a bit over saturated and focus is sharpest on the eye farther from me, but ... it works, anyway. My attention is inexorably drawn to that bright little fly. He better hope there are no predators nearby!
