 Wow... and a red too! Totally stoked as I hit my goal of finally scoring over 7. For months, I've noticed that these flys keep getting stuck in the baby fence for our pool. I kept putting off buying macro tubes, but had this shot in mind for some time. When the challenge was announced, I ordered the macro tubes from BandH and had them 2nd day aired. Anyway, I'm very impressed with these macro tubes. The one caveat to these tubes is that you lose allot of light. So I used an off camera flash that I was holding in my other hand. This allowed me to keep the shutter speed up enough to hand hold the shot. There was no room for a tripod as I was concerned with falling in the pool...LoL...

not a fan of bug shots..but this one is tres cool! Maybe its the black background and wire fence that makes for a perfect fit for this evil looking bugger. Well done

Congrats on the red (matches his eyes). That is an incredible shot for hand held - especially as you had to use your other hand for the flash. Well done Sir(Ashley).

Very interesting capture. Too bad you could get rid of the dust/pollon on the eyes.

A little more light on the underside might have set off the face a little better.

A post-industrial apocalyptic fly! Feels like that, anyway. Very different pose and environment for a macro fly shot. Wich makes it quite interesting! A bit too dark in some ways but since that fits the mood of the image it works for me.
