Critique Club Critique

(1) COMPOSITION (CONTENT) Well composed. The diagonal lines of the flames draws the eye into the photograph. There are lots of little details in this photo that make it very interesting. The highlight on the log at the lower left is a good example of this. This along with the strong use of rule of thirds makes a very powerful composition.

(2) BACKGROUND The darkness of the background is allows the flames to really shine. This would not have been accomplished with any other background.

(3) CAMERA WORK ,TECHNICAL Exposure is good. I like the use of a slow shutter speed to soften the flames and allow the movement flow. A stopped motion shot would not have been as effective in my opinion. Composition is very strong.

(4) DIGITAL PROCESSING ,TECHNICAL There is only one change that I might suggest. Your exposure and post processing got the flames and the logs just right, but there seems to be a little noise (grain) on the very edges of the fire. I am not sure if this is from playing with the saturation or just because it was a low light photograph. I am not sure that you could have improved this with the limitations on post-processing on DPC though.

(5)MEETING THE CHALLENGE This photo does a very good job of meeting the challenge. I might have suggested putting the name of the group into the title for those who are to young to remember The Doors.

(6) MY OPINION ON THE PHOTO An excellent photo of motion. Gives a good feeling of emotion as well. This is a photo that I would be happy to hang in my den or family room.

Definately relates to the song. I like the color in this shot. The soft motion of the fire is also very nice. I learned in the blue challenge how hard it was to photograph fire. Not that easy. Good luck in the challenge.

you picked the right rectangle to show the heat moving, nice contours, wide range of color in the flame.
