Challenge: Fill the Frame IV (Advanced Editing VII)
Camera: Canon EOS-7D
Lens: Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II
Date: May 24, 2013
Aperture: 8.0
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/20
Date Uploaded: May 24, 2013

Continuing my trend of off-the-wall self-portraits. Had an abandoned face-mask lying around and decided to try get a gritty image with it. Imagination was lacking, but finally settled on a white hoodie to complement the mask. I think it worked quite well! I like this a lot.

Had a nice setting sun to work with, so no special lighting or flashes required, just me staring towards the sun. Just enough light bouncing off the deck to fill the shadows some.

Processing (very straight-forward):

- Import into LR3
- Crop
- Export to SEP
- Wet Rocks Preset (I'm loving this preset)
- Adjust Global Structure, Contrast and Brightness sliders
- Structure Control Point on Facemask
- Apply Blue Filter
- Back into LR3
- Tone Curve to push blacks and brighten whites
- Iris Enhance (2x)
- Dodge & Burn
- Sharpen
- Export to Web

As with my previous self-portraits, hoping this one does well. Am I being too wishful for a 6.5+? Suspect I'll get some DNMC votes for the little smidge of background in the upper corners. Hopefully won't be too many.

So you intimidated the viewers into giving you a high score :) Quite intense. Love the lighting on your face. Congrats on the top ten!

You are getting quite good at the ominous self portrait shot. Perhaps this would make a good challenge suggestion. Nice job.

This is still a ribbon worthy shot, your finest self-portrait (not because your face is covered). Congrats on the TT, I have no clue how this didn't make it in the top 3.

I'm intrigued by this photo because you look like a man who wouldn't want to interfere with anything getting jabbed into his mouth/throat, and yet here you are wearing a mask. Thought-provoking. But forget the psychology...

This is an incredible photo. Technically perfect. Haunting. In our face.
