Not the most exciting bird pic. Bit of a reference shot really.
Seldom seen but often heard. About 6 meters from me with the Sigma 170-500mm. The Black-collared Barbet (Lybius torquatus) is a species of bird in the Lybiidae family. It is found in sub-Saharan Africa. Readily recognised by its loud duet,

).... accompanied by wing-flicking. This bird produces a variety of calls including its snarling warning call and loud buzzing. It is a gregarious species, often acting in concert when driving off intruders and roosting together (up to 15 recorded) in nest holes. Their flight is direct with a loud whirring of wings.

Any comment or critique; complimentary or critical are welcome and appreciated. Questions about gear, technique etc. also welcome.

Good continuing tour of wildlife I'll never see. I think this "reference shot" could be given more pop. I'm tempted to try - maybe later.

To clarify, not the physical background but your extensive knowledge of birds ;)

Tough looking little nugget. The sigma seems a pretty good tool and the D90 would throw it an appreciable distance. Nicely done and I commend your commitment to the background of your subjects.

Wonderfully sharp and detailed and a very pretty bird. I enjoy the information you share so much.

Beautiful! I love how the grass in front is in focus and it gradually fades away. Such vibrant facial color and feather details.

Gorgeous shot! When I was at Hazyview 2 of them were chasing a Honeyguide away from the nest !
