Thanks for all the votes and comments. Much appreciated as always.
I didn't expect this to do so well - mainly because it wasn't particularly unusual. However, I realize that producing a unique image these days is nigh on impossible. In many ways this was a revisit to my own image from April 2010:

' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_challenge/1000-1999/1199/120/Copyrighted_Image_Reuse_Prohibited_869348.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_challenge/1000-1999/1199/120/Copyrighted_Image_Reuse_Prohibited_869348.jpg', '/') + 1) . '

The set-up consists of a large black plate (to produce strong eye-catching contrast in the shadows). The plate is on a window ledge to reflect the sky which is the only light source.

I feel I have learned a lot about photography while being a member of the DPC community. For example, people like strong contrast in an image. They also like soft pastel gradients. I hope that these particular ingredients have helped my image.

There is talk that people are starting to lose interest in DPC which I think is a shame. There is a great deal to be learnt from entering challenges, trying to improve your performance and drawing inspiration from your favourite photographers (both new and old).

Quite different than the other entries in this challenge, but all too similar to this great shot (below) by ' . substr('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/21.gif', strrpos('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/21.gif', '/') + 1) . ' h2 from just a couple months ago. I can't help but compare the two, and the quality of light in his is far superior. h2 set the bar pretty high. You have a fair bit of the image that has gone into the darkness void, whereas in his shot, the shadows have detail. I don't think you can bring up the exposure here either, because you have whites that would blow out.

When I think of "morning," I don't think of an image that's quite so contrasty. I think dreamy and fuzzy. The image you produced looks more like an evening scene.

Don't get me wrong, I'd be thrilled with the image you produced if I had shot it, but there is room for improvement. I don't mean to rain on your ribbon, I would have said the same things a week ago had I gotten around to commenting during the challenge. I also know that it's not really fair to compare two images by two different photographers, but I can't help it when they're so similar.

Congratulations on your ribbon.

Looks like the winner to me, nicely done, with wonderful lighting.

Bump to 10, but I'm sure you don't need it.
