Ok -- all I had were some motion blur shots of seagulls, of which I wasn't quite sure. I liked them, but not quite enough.



Were they fine arts? I never can tell on my own stuff.

So I did a search on fine arts photography, and followed a link to another link to another link. I wish I would have bookmarked it so I could show you. Anyway, it looked like paint splatters over a glass superimposed on a face. My daughter has paints, and I tore apart a framed photo and stole the glass, and asked her it she could splatter the outside for me.

Well... we found out that acrylics don't splatter very well. So she started just brushing around the outside. The center was too large, and too round, so we redesigned it, and I asked her to add brush strokes going into the face. I used side lighting on her so that it would backlight the paint on the glass and to get the glow. The darker swirl coming from the eye is a pattern that she did with eyeliner.

It was a toss up having the shadowed side of her face more in shadow or bringing it out a bit more. I liked it both ways, but chose to bring it out a bit more.

I'm still not sure it's fine art.

I'm still not sure I like it better than the seagull. :)

But it definitely was a fun experiment. Thanks for all the comments!

It's interesting that she looks so very young in this photo. She's 18, but does look quite childlike. The whole photo reminded me, from the beginning, of a child playing, and perhaps because in the original crop, I thought she looked like a lion:

I hope you don't mind if I steal this idea Wendy, coz I'm going to. I can see a series of these in my future. Might be just the thing to get me interested and motivated again after everything. Thanks for the inspiration - you have I idea how badly I need it!
