Thanks for sharing this image with me in the 'mist' thread - you've managed to bring to life many of the words contained within the poem there. Your capture of the mist between the trees on this photo is brilliant. There is a lovely mood within the shot and your sky is a perfect complimentary colour.

This one is nice, but it doesn't wow me. Still, the fog in the trees is very interesting.

Great capture of the fog. The colors of the sky really catch my attention, too.

The morning haze really comes to life or it could be night fall. The picture looks a little to soft to me. Still it is nice work. Good Luck! 5

It pays to go out early! Lovely colors captured here. It's amazing how fast and how much the sky changes in the morning, isn't it? The mist is great, and I like the extra sky you included.

Great capture, my top rated landscape in the challenge. The graduation in the top half between the yellow and the blue is a bit crude. This photograph reminds me of the works of Mark Rothko -8

I like the atmospheric conditions you have illustrated so very well here yet I find the rock outcrop somewhat distracting. Perhaps a crop of about 515x640 may have worked ? Perhaps slightly less sharpening.

I've been trying (without much success) to capture some low-lying fog like that.

Better without the bottom fifth of the image.

Without the lower part of the image (the path) the picture would've been pure magic :) You captured morning mist perfectly!

Stunning image captured here.
Calm, serene. One of my top 5 favorites in this challenge.
Bumping up another notch ((9))

Maybe move the horizon up, significantly, to get the focus on the mist shrouded trees? All that negative space seems to drag the viewer away.

I think this would have been much much better if the road was cropped out right up to the fog. Otherwise, great shot with lovely tones and the color of the sky is impressive. 7

got to love mist! fantastically great yellow blue grey green. The size of the shot is distracting, but the adventurous path is established.

This is great with great opposite color strength. I find the foreground fog a bit too strong to make a top notch study but the overall effect does win my attention and this is the object of any shot. Bumping to 6

Strong points: The layering of color is one of ny favorite ways to compose nature shots. You've done it very well. Perfect exposure, excellent composition.

Nice landscape... the fog introduces an interesting element to the land. I think this photo is missing something... Maybe its a simple focal point. This is one area where I see landscape photos 'falling down'. I think every landscape photo needs at least one strong point of focus, and this one doesn't have that. The fog is offering some interest, but it doesn't really support any particular theme or subject.

Really good shot here, just trying to work out if I would have liked it more if it was cropped tighter from either the top or cutting out part of the pathway at the bottom.

I love the mist here, leaves an eerie look to the shot, the colours in the sky are brilliant too! 8

Beautiful sunrise shot. Seems like a nice quiet place to take a morning stroll. I really like the low defined fog hanging withing the trees.

Those that snooze lose, and this is proof. all that I would hope for was that the sky were less. Not cropped, just less. Witn no control over that, it is wonderful. 10

Oooh, is this in the Smokey Mountains? Very nice shot...though when I scroll up a tad and basically cut off the bottom (grass and trail) and make like the misty trees and sunsoaked sky is all that's shown in the photo...well, I like it better! So, my only suggestion would be to crop... I enjoyed, though, thanks!

I have gotten up many morning s at 5:00am to find a scen like this and have never managed to catch it. Rolling hill fog is a photographers dream and you have ca[ptured it very well. My only beefs are the format doesn't work to me (square) and if possible I would have gotten higher to look down on the fog.

Still a uniqe and well timed photo.

Breathtaking... I wish I was an early person so I at least had a chance of ever capturing a photo like this. Not quite sure why you went for an almost square crop... I'd have preferred the traditional dimensions. 8

is that a long exposure? if not, you found some freaky fog. very cool. You might try dodging the highlights a bit in the foreground to bring out a bit more detail. i like it.

Too much foreground, cropping 1/2 an inch off of the bottom would make this a superb photo

Beautiful colors you've captured, the fog is what makes this shot. Nice, very atmospheric...

Another good idea is to have the path as a major element in the composition.

Dismissed first time round with a six...just another misty sunrise! Back again and again due to the intriguing foreground. Well executed, sky is a bit washed, shame there wasn't more cloud to add emphasis. 6 first, upped to 8

I like many of the elements in this shot - the wisps of fog with the trees showng through, the path in the foreground and the colors of the morning sky. The framing seems odd to me though - I think you gave too much room to the sky at the expense of the foreground features. A square crop is interesting and can work well sometimes, but here it is distracting and actually works against the shot. It looked more like a portrait aspect ratio to me and I had to actually check the image properties to see thyat it was, in fact, square.

I love the fog, however it seems it's a bit off in the immediate foreground. Also, the sky is a little too yellow for my tastes. 6

i might have dead centered the horizon, or moved more towards the thirds.
cropping some of the bottom part out. maybe right to the lower fog - shrub edge.
i'm not fond of the square crop, in most cases.

a killer shot no doubt ; }
good luck

Very nice, the fog is wonderful. Contrast is good with a tough task of showing the front shadows against that sky.

10/01/2004 03:10:30 PM
Tough shot to catch... the bright light of the sunrise can really overpower the image and make the foreground underexposed, but you manage a good compromise here. The color reflected in the fog is a neat effect. Gradient density filters can really help with shots like this, allowing you to get a bit more exposure and detail in the foreground without washing out the sky colors.

10/01/2004 02:54:51 PM
I think you could have gone with a standard aspect ratio on this... The sky isn't dramatic on the top 1/3, but there is much mystery and detail in the lower 2/3.

Another fine example that it is worth it getting up early. Great early morning atmosphere, the first warm light above the cold morning mist. Lovely soft colors. I would have cropped away more of the front, not only is this part darker and attracts attention, it also contains this nasty little iron pole on the left. Just cropping it straight above the pole makes it better, in my opinion.

I love mornings like this. Taking into account the angle of the sunlight, the fog and the landscape .... you've exposed wonderfully here. No overexposed areas, and dark areas have detail.

possibly look at cropping a rather large section of the blue sky to the top of the photo, IMHO i dont believe it adds much to this photo overall and its absence i believe could improve it as it would provide alot more focus to the mist and contrast to the sunrise/ sunset a soft border could possibly also add alot to this photo however overall this is a fabulous photo and deffinitely deserves to be one of the top contenders

This photo just begs for a contrast boost in post-processing in my opinion. It's a great shot but I feel it just needs some proper blacks in there, not the dark greys which are there currently. I think some of the sky should be cropped out too, probably all of the blue bit down to just above the dark cloud. 6
