Critique Club Review
I like this photo a lot. The haze makes for a dreamy quality as the light filters past the tree. The stream does a good job of leading the eye to the top of the picture, it is a shame there isn't a bit more there. With the haze and the washed out sky, more trees to filter the light and create streamers would have worked quite well.
The lens flare is the only real distracting element. A lens hood or a helpfull hand shading the lens would have been very beneficial here.
The exposure was about as good as you could get under these conditions. Had you gone much darker and you would have lost the detail in the shadows at the lower left of the frame. Any brighter and the sky have overwhelmed the picture. Contrast is excellent, focus is good, possibly could have been a tiny bit sharper. |

I really wanted to like this photo because it seems to have a lot of the right elements like sunny weather, a river, rocks and greenery but instead it feels too cluttered. It doesn't have a focal point, my eyes just keep wandering around without really enjoy any one thing in particular. I think there probably was something good to photograph at this location but this particular composition just isn't working for me. Of course without knowing the location I can't really recommend a better composition. Was there a cleaner looking part of the river? Was there an angle that showed more of the beautiful trees? It's often a little tricky to shoot into the sun so as to avoid a washed out sky or lens flare. Maybe you could have pursued that element and showed the sun even more for a real striking shot by positioning the sun directly behind a tree or other object or something like that. Technically it is pretty good, fairly clean and sharp. For this particular shot the photo may have benefitted by underexposing it about a 1/2 to 1 full stop to maintain more of the color in the trees and grass. Like I said many of the right elements are there it just needed a better composition and some elements of emphasis. It looks like a fun area to explorer.

Very nice composition here. It reminds me of a chinese landscape painting, with that mist. I like the effect of the lens flare. |

A very lovely view of a little river! I find the picture a little bit noisy, and there's a weird blue and purple dot in the middle of the photo! I think it would have beena touch better if you had taken the photo in the landscape way, and not the portrait way. I wish I could see more of the left side of the photo. A lovely idea though :) -Annida |

The sun is doing its best to spoil this shot, but I'm not sure if it ends up adding to it. The lens flare is not too distracting or ugly, and the rest of the shot is great. Nice work. |

Pretty stream and valley. I am assuming that's low clouds/haze and that you wanted in the photo. (Bet you're getting "use a haze filter" comments!) But did you really want the two sun flares? (If not, try shading the front of the lens from above, might help some, or a different angle shot). 7 Swash |

I don't mind the lens flare too much but the upper left hand corner is over exposed. Taking the photo earlier would have helped eliminate the flare and possibly overexposed sky. The composition is very nice so I think this same photo at a different time during the day would have made this one even better. |

I think this would be a better shot taken at a different time of day. The light is too strong up front. Nice composition and subject though! |

this looks like an interesting place but I don't find the photo too compelling. It might just be the angle. I would like to see more of the river and less of the washed out sky. It looks like a difficult lighting situation. Have you used a polarizer filter to deepend the blue in the sky and reduce reflections? Any camera with a tripod socket can accomodate one. 5 |

Nice shot but the lens flare is really a distraction. |

I'm seeing lots of harsh skies in the landscape challenge. I don't mind the sun flares at all, but I wish that the trees in the back (which are an important part of this landscape) weren't washed out by the sky. The brook is very pretty, and colors are nice in the bottom half of the shot. Good focus and clarity on the brook as well. The angle and framing/cropping is good. I like how the brook sends you into the photo. Good luck in the challenge. |

I'm sure you've heard enough about sunflares, so I'll spare you that. The focus beyond where the stream bottlenecks is a little soft. A greater DOF would have worked better. Aside from that its a nice pic - Inspzil |

Great spot. This shot would have benefitted from the use of a polarizer. If you can't use one with your camera, you should turn away from the sun to shoot. |

There's water or fingerprints on your lens |

Nice photo. The reflections on the lens from the sun are a (small) shame - Perhaps you could shade the lens (or even buy a lens hood depending on the camera). The river and valley lends itself to a portrait orientation - well done. Finally, the ground appears purple on the almost-bottom right - is this a camera glitch or something growing on the ground? |

I liked the shot, but subtracted a bit due to the reflections(hot spots?) in the shot.5. |
