Sorry if the title offended some. I would have named it something different in retrospect. I took this shot on September 11th, 2013 right after my son's failed heart surgery landed him on ECMO. They literally unplugged his heart and ran it from this machine for 24 hours. We were saying our final goodbye's right before they put him through another surgery which saved his life. This was both the best and worst day of my life. Nathan is at home now, currently in heart failure but the happiest baby you've ever seen. This picture was rock bottom. We have at least one more surgery to go on Valentine's day.

Thanks for all the concern. Nathan's surgery went well on Friday but he hasn't been able to come back off Bypass/ECMO yet. He basically looks exactly like the picture above right now. They're going to try again tomorrow morning. I'll update again when we're done with this mess :)

Hope the surgery went well.

I happened to come across this picture and I've got to simply say wow. Can't even imagine what it must feel like to see your child like this and going through all that. I noticed from the photo description that he is due for another surgery in a few days, I'll keep him on my thoughts and hope that everything turns out well.

Wow. Such an honest portrayal of a moment. Unfettered, graphic, initimate, complex, simple.

Not a fan of the title.

I always give one ten in every challenge. This was one of the easiest choices I've made in this regard for any challenge. In my opinion, there isn't another photo that comes close to the impact this one is presenting. I might not give any photo a nine because I believe this one is that much better than the rest.

It's one of the only entries where I want to ask follow up questions. I want to engage with the subjects of the photo. You want the photo that proceeds this one to come next.

I rated this highly because it has plenty of emotion. I think it would be even stronger if cropped in a bit. Nice work.
