I live in Minnesota, where the cold is a fairly normal thing. Last Sunday we jumped in the truck and headed west to see if we could find any snowy owls, down from Canada this year. The forecast was for high wind, so we didn't have any real expectation for owls, but we also didn't expect the weather we got into. At the point I shot this image, the air temp was +8F and the wind chill was about -15. Quite an experience.

owls?? Where! My brother still lives in MN, and I don't think he's heard about them!

I love this image but I think the thick dark border detracts a bit from the soft colors of the image.

One of my three highest rated photos. Here I love how cold is conveyed through delicacy, and a misleading delicacy since these reeds and this tree are so resolute and, therefore, heartening. The soft colors, too, lead one there and back.
