COMPOSITION
I absolutely love the composition of this shot. The placement of the "thing" is in such a position that the rolling hill leads the eyes straight towards it, and then there is a solid place to rest. No jumping here and there seeing what all there is to see.
TECHNIQUE
Your focus here is powerful, I think. The "thing" is razor sharp, and the trees add a sense of softness (not that they are out of focus, just not as detailed as the "thing"). The green of the grass (which I stil think is a bit much, but maybe because that is because I haven't seen green grass in several months; everyone else seems to like it!) contrasts nicely with the rusty side, again drawing attention to the subject. Ironically, though I didn't care for the green grass, I did like the white sky. To me, it looked like fog rolling in, and gave it a mysterious look.
OVERALL EFFECT
I think technically this is an awesome shot. What I suspect happened is that it didn't have a lot of "quick" emotional appeal to the viewers. Unfortunately, this shot, like a couple of others I have seen, takes a close look to be truly appreciated to the fullest extent. On DPC, many do not (and indeed some cannot) take the time to truly appreciate the finer points of the picture. Though that is neither the fault of the photographer or viewer, it is something to consider when choosing your shot. Nice work, and I look forward to seeing future submissions.

59! you were robbed... another one of my top 10 this week... |

an abandoned (?) water reservoir alongside the Brea Canyon highway (now much less traveled since the 57 freeway was built) -- i've seen some livestock in the area, but they must be grazing up from the other side of the hills - there's no other sign of life along the hillside, save for the barbed wire and the trash
as for the washed-out sky - well, this whole week was overcast, and i was lucky to find a patch of green that was lit up enough to make an interesting photo
oh well - the winners were out of my range this week anyway :) |

Nice colours, well balanced. The composition is great. It might be slightly overexposed...the sky is blown out a touch and the background loses some detail as a resuly. still, nice shot. |

The colors are nice. If the clarity was there, you'd have a contender - Inspzil |

I never knew that an old rusted piece of metal could looks so interesting! The metal really stands out from the lush green of the back ground. I don't know if I would call this a traditional landscape, but it works for me. The distance seems to be a bit too bright/out of focus, but htat could be your intention. 7. |

Excellent photograph... I really love the color contrast you have provided here. I think that all landscapes need some specific element of interest for the eye to come to rest on and you have done that very well. Without that old structure in your image, it would be rather boring overall... great shot = 10 - setzler |

This is a nice photo of the forgotten item, but the landscape is kind of washed out by the lighting. The sky is quite washed out. The grass is a beautiful color though, and I like the rust color of the thing against that bright green. It's too bad for the lighting conditions though, I would like to see that green extend into the horizon. I love the angle and framing/cropping. The object is nicely placed, as is the 'horizon' line. Focus and clarity are great as well. The detail in the metal is very nice. Good luck in the challenge. |

Great color. I like the placement of the ... err... thing. Would be even cooler without the white sky. |

I like the aspect ratio of this photo, and I love the contrast between the rust and the green. The tank is quite well focused, and the border works well (especially given the sky is virtually white). Good work. |
