The old majestic Stop sign in the sky...

My first thought is that this is what you see when you're on your way to heaven and they realize they made a mistake by letting you in.

I'm 100% sure I will encounter this sign on my journey to the beyond.lol

Gordon, I thought for sure this would be the winner, It was in my book. I had the same idea but wasn't quite sure how to pull it off effectively without the rear-sync capability on my camera. Hmm, maybe I could have backed away from the stop sign instead of going towards it. My plan was to take it at night though so that would have been different. Anyway it is an awesome effect and very well done. Very dramatic.

Gordon, I'm not really sure what to say about this that hasn't been said already. This is very effective, just as you have it. It's a simple uncomplicated composition that works well.
In this case, having the stop sign centered was a good idea, since it is a sort of "in your face" concept. Thirds wouldn't have been quite as effective.
The "blue rays" look like they're radiating from heaven, which is appropriate.
Great concept, creative, and good use of technique. Congrats!!

Grayce

excellent moody picture

Overexposed in Manual mode to give the white light impression and then zoomed the lens through a long shutter speed to get this effect. Used a polariser to darken it up enough to allow the long exposure.

Interesting effect. Waiting to see how you achieved it. Composition is good given the subject and effect. You achieved a nice, eeire, vaugely ethereal feel with this photo, which I am sure was the intent. Good job. 7 md

Wicked and very eye catchy! I really like the sign and diagonally the lower right half (does that make sense?). The light rays with the trees behind them is simply spectacular! Less than fond of the other half that is totally blown out, but I'm sure that was a trade off and I can accept that. Visually WOW!!! 9 Swash

I suppose there were always going to be loads of STOP signs in this challenge. Many congratulations for doing something different and extremely effective with the idea.

Great shot...I like the trees reaching skyward and the effect made by timed exposure.

i don't like the title, but that has little to do with the fact that this is a good pic. i like how you can see the beam of light through the whole in the bottom of the sign. is this possible on a non dslr camera. i don't think i could so this. can you explain how this is done? thanks

Nice work - you have created the effect well. Your title is also very witty. One of very few "artistic" signs in this challenge. Well done.

This is first place!! Awesome. "WOW" I don't know how you did this but it is wonderful. The absolute greatest. I had better be #1. It deserves it. No words to describe it. it's a 10.

this photo is going to make me vote on others just so your mark counts,
it's the first one i picked out to vote on, 10, please tell me this was zoom to get that effect, it's the only good one i like, the rest are just pictures even though others are great none of them made me vote apart from yours. well done.

zooming while taking the photo? I did a photo similar to this for action, it was of a gravestone.... this is very well done, I love the glimpses of trees behind this, and it looks like the stop sign is glowing. Very nicely done... only thing I might say, is I would have tried to make the sign straight... it looks tilted... otherwise great job. Good luck!
01/21/2003 07:47:00 AM
I want to know did you lasso the sun for this photo, just kidding but the effect is good.

Brilliant shot. I would very much like to know how this was done. Good job.
01/20/2003 02:12:28 PM
great effect! how did you do that? if you had increased the saturation would the red have come out a bit stronger (or maybe have used your flash to fill it out) - or would that have screwed up the effect?
01/20/2003 09:07:12 AM
spooky. great picture.
