They just started tearing down the old Bay Bridge between Treasure Island and Oakland. Been wanting to shoot this, and had the chance to grab a quick shot on the way to watch the Warriors beat the Clippers Sunday afternoon. (Go Dubs!) I love seeing the old pictures of when they were building this bridge and the Golden Gate, so thought I'd try to go back in time for that kind of feel as they tear it down. I think this will be better in a month or two when more of the bridge is gone (they are taking it apart piece by piece, in the reverse order of how they built it 70+ years ago.) Quick Lightroom edit then Topaz BW2 using one of the VanDyke presets and then playing around further from there.

Well I guess voters know what they want, and they cleary don't want vintage B+Ws, just silvers and greys ... fwiw VanDyke Brown has been around for more than 150 years, although the Topaz preset does lean towards heavier tinted/monochrome feel it evoked the historical feeling I was going for.

I've used the Topaz Labs Van Dyke Brown treatment and got the same response in a juried Photo Club evening. They all hated it. Suffices to say that 4/5 Judges and ALL the participants had never heard of it and all but 1 got into photography in the Digital era..
In the age of the knowledge and information super highways they are pretty stupid. Needless to say I am no longer a member.

Would have been nice for a duotone challenge, but this is a B&W challenge.

I don't know how to vote on an image that's not all gray tones in a Black and White challenge.

"Reduce the world to a palette of grays, and focus on light, shade, line, texture and form."

I'll revisit this tomorrow...

I am not sure I love the color, photo is a bit dark for my taste.

Muddy and foreboding. Unusual choice and I doubt it is getting any love because of that. I'm not against the PP choice but I do wish you'd taken more care when doing it. There are way to many halos throughout the image. Try mask and apply the filter one by one to the masked areas, then re-blend.
