Challenge: Update Your Avatar II (Expert Editing)

The idea to spoof Bruce Springsteen's epic Born In the USA album cover came relatively late, but as it's a pretty simple shot, I figured I'd have fun with it. Some worn jeans, a white T-shirt, a plain belt (though he's wearing one with some bling on it) and a deer-head slingshot as opposed to a red trucker cap sticking out of the back pocket, and of course a Canadian flag instead of Ol' Glory...yeah, I have fun :-)
Now if I had a studio the size of Annie Leibovitz's then all I would have needed was a gigantic Canadian flag. However I have a tiny studio, so had to shoot the images separately and 'chop em up. I can now get this pose perfectly, though! Lean slightly to the left, letting that arm hang more or less straight though slightly bent at the elbow, hand lightly curled. Right hand is placed on right front pocket and right leg is bent to the side. Light from the left and eh wala.
pp: shot RAW, brightness/contrast, vibrance/saturation, some cloning, extraction, eraser, filters used to try and get a tan on my pasty white Canadian arms.
Used two different lenses, the 50mm for the flag and the old warhorse 18-200mm got trotted out because I really didn't want to shoot my ass with a 10-20mm wideangle! Very glad that I can still use the ol' beast. Bounced flash off of my big reflector on the left, and had a secondary reflector on the floor to my right to help illuminate the backside of that leg. |
