Challenge: Got Milk? (Classic Editing)
Camera: Nikon Coolpix 950
Location: Parents' front room
Date: Jan 18, 2003
Aperture: F/2.8
ISO: ISO-225
Shutter: 1/3 sec.
Galleries: Studio
Date Uploaded: Jan 18, 2003

Photographed my sister's glass, choosing the image that had the best DOF and the "Milk" logo in focus. Used Neat Image to remove the noise, then played with the brightness and contrast in PSP until the background was solid black but the glass wasn't affected too much.

Greetings from the Critique Club
Subject
The subject is easily identifiable as a glass but I feel it would have, both looked and met the challenge better had it been at least half full of milk.
Sharpness: The image is nice and sharp which I feel is important to this single subject photo?

Exposure: Contrast & Color: I think the original exposure was probably more correct than it is now after photoshopping to get the background an even black. The mug now looks rather dingy and gray.

Composition I think the composition is good As you look at the photo you get an almost 3d effect of the mug you almost want to put your hand out and grab it! I liked your minimalistic approach to the challenge!
Suggestions for improvement
Milk in the cup! Better lighting and less adjustments in photoshop.
May I conclude by saying that I thought this would do better than it did!

challenge met. interesting angle on the glass, nice even background. i wonder what this would've looked like with milk in the glass. the frosted glass looks a little dirty (even though i know it's only the frosting) and the milk would've covered that.

I like the idea of a frosted glass... gives a second dimension to the photo. Cool that you have a glass with the word Milk on it.

Interesting angle. You might have tried B&W for this since the colors are so so few. I like how the glass seems to almost be glowing. Probably could have been improved if the rim of the cup was in focus a bit more. Not that I'm the DoF police or anything though...:)

Nice glass. I really enjoy the textures I can see here, and the camera angle is cool. The black background is nice too. The DOF you used is interesting... not sure if it works or not. Actually, I think it does, because it pulls the eyes down to that cow print image on the glass. I have a feeling that I'd have liked some more negative space around the image... maybe above the glass? The tight frame just makes it a bit bland to me.

Intersting angle. The glass seems foggy. Did you place it in the freezer. Nice background.

I dig the concept and the lighting. My "nit" is that the back of the glass is not as evenly "frosted" as the front appears to be -- lots of little nicks for one, and then just not as smoothly "frosted" either -- almost as if it's got fingerprints or something that were then frosted over. I'm not explaing myself well. Still one of my more favorite shots...
