A box of 1000 Paper Clips

Shot with a Nikon D100 camera and a Nikkor 200mm f4.0 Micro lens. A Nikon SB-29 Ring flash was used in the manual mode for illumination.

The image was exposed in the aperture-priority mode to ensure a maximum depth of field and to compensate for the unmanaged high power level of the twin strobe flash unit mounted on the lens barrel.

I stood elevated on the side of the bath tub with the box of paper clips on the bathroom floor in order to achieve sufficient distance for the focal length of the lens and for the desired framing of the subject.

I like to colors a lot.
In my opinion, the light is still a bit "harsh". It looks like a direct flash. Perhaps bouncing the flash would have improved it.
I would also have preffered more sharpness on the paper clips. It seems that your camera is focused on the separation between the compartiments rather than beeing focused on the clips.

This is just getting picky but the strong colors on the right overwhelm the left side of the photograph leaving me with a feeling that it is unbalanced (and that may have been your intent).

Nice colours but the overall pic but it seems a little flat...maybe too symmetrical.

Focus seems soft to me. However, could just be the texture made by the lots of paper clips. Not sure if I would consider this 'extreme' close up. Definatley a close up of sorts though. Extreme to me would be a section of one paperclip, not hundreds. Colors are definately neat. I wonder if this would have a higher visual impact if the center was not dead center. maybe move it off to one side or near a corner. mix it up a bit! ~Heather~
