Lit with household lamp from below. Halogen desk lamp from above. Gold/Silver reflector. White background. Grayscale. Curves. Matted.
This is a Bird of Paradise Flower.
The blues of the flower were lost against a black background. In color it was very pretty, but I prefered the b&w to bring out the texture, lines, and form.. which I was more interested in portraying.
I like this one. :)

Greetings from the Critique Club
Composition: An interesting slant on an often photographed subject! Congratulations on being brave enough to convert it to black & White and change it from the mundane to the unusual!
I would have liked a little more room around the crop though, Part of the point appears to be missing and it is to tight on the left.
Background: Works for this image
Camera work : Overall a good sharp photo with a good tonal range, although the petal at the lower left is slightly out of focus I cant make up my mind if this detracts or actually adds another focal point!
Digital processing: Not overworked, just right!

My Opinion I like this, it makes a statement to me and everytime I go back and look at it something new grabs my interest.

Unusual crop, and one I don't particularly care for. Picture looks pretty well taken, I'm not sure I like the adjustments

I'm not sure that grayscale does this photo justice?

Not a Mapplethorpe fan at all, but the composition of this alone makes it interesting. Would have like more light on the flower - not enough contrast there for me.

I like the use ofB/W but I think that this would be stronger with a bit more space at the bottom

favorite pic so far! i love everytihing about it. it is interesting to me that it looks almost like a painting! since you mentioned mapplethorpe, i cant get the calla lilly photo out of my head--so i keep wanting to see more space at the bottom of this picture---but i am definitely open to interpretation! wonderful tones and contrasts! 10
