Greetings from the Critique Club :)
I think this is a lovely composition. The exposure length for the water is just about perfect. My issues with this particular shot seem to contradict your own ideas in your description. I would love to see this exposed a little more to bring out the detail in the water wheel. I think you would get your cold and dead feel simply from the lack of color in the scene, and maybe by adding some of your blue tint as well. That old waterwheel seems to be the 'subject' of the photo and having some more visible detail there for the viewer would be a great change, IMO. I would love to see your original before darkening if you are willing to share....
keep up the good work :)

Perfect! Print that one for your friends and family. I see nothing that needs improving on this photograph. I really like the slow shutter to blur the water...nice touch. 10 |

Tons of detail happening here. Nice gentle movement in the stream. Pattern and texture in the branches and roots. Great character in the wheel. Topped by the chill of snow and deep blue to tie the message altogether. Some folks may find the blue tone a bit heavyhanded. But I think that it does a very effective job here. For even more visual punch I would have zeroed in on just a couple of those really attractive elements. Say, a portion of the wheel with the stream and rocks, for example. I would like to have a little more stream in the photo in the foreground just so the hub of the wheel would not be smack dab on the horizontal centerline of the image area. Those are just minor suggestions. A very expressive image. |

Great shot! How long was your shutter open to get that effect on the water. |

I love the little falls coming down from the right top to the bottome center. The motion there is the only proof that it is not frozen over. The wheel is a little dark. Would look better if it showed up more, since it is your subject. I like thei midnight blue color better than a black and white. But it is a little too dark. Lightened up it is a winner. Photo has nice focus and cropping. like your choice of color. |

I like how this picture was done with a blue tint. The way the water is moving down the stream was also done very nice. Good Work |

Image seems a little dark--lighting it up some--maybe a blue tint would liven it up some |

Lovely photograph you've got here. Your slow shutter speed does wonders for the water from the little falls up on the right all the way down to the wheel. The natural lighting puts a very cool mood into the picture, and the background of the wooded area is not the slightest distracting. No matter where you look, the small water falls brings your eyes right back to the wheel. The detail that you've captured is great, right down to the ice on the rock beside the wheel and the stones on the bank. Slendid Photograph! |

I like the blue cast on the image. A touch more exposure would be nice but then you risk blowing out the snow. Good picture though. |

The cold cyan color enhances this photo. The snow and the water are nice contrasts to the man-made waterwheel. I would tone down the whites some but that may just be my monitor. |

Like the composition and bluish cast that the picture has alot, but it appears a bit underexposed. I also like the compositional balance between the wheel and the brook. Contrast could be improved here as well. Is that a bluish tint or is this a straight on B&W picture? Also, how long did you expose it for? |

Good job! The wheel doesn't turn? I ask that because you got a nice effect on the water falling downstream, but no blur on the wheel. |

very beautiful photo. One of 4 of my 10's this week. Composition is excellent. The slow shutter speed is excellent in catching the blurred motion of the water in the stream. I like the blue tone. Was this done in duotone or tritone? |
