...from Critique Club...

Hi Carsten

FIRST IMPRESSION:
Great expression.

COMPOSITION:
I really love the crop you have chosen. I think that close crops on faces are far more interesting than full heads. The tilt on his head works very nice. Great job, IMO :)

TECHNICAL:
I find it a bit dark, maybe post-processing could help it. The tonal range is not as wide as I would perfer. The focus/dof are right on the money. :)

ARTISTIC:
Cliche enough. The shot is a great BW portrait. I really like the expression you have captured, along with the reflection on the eyes. Not sure I would change anything (I rated this photo high, BTW, and am disappointed w/ its finish) :)

OVERALL:
Great shot, which should have place higher, IMO.

Cheers...and good luck in your future entries.

The photographer just blew this cliche completely out of the water and turned it into a work of art.

The use of black and white with dark, but not black shadows on this high quality image adds a hint of mystery to the subject. Like the Mona Lisa, you wonder exactly what they are thinking.

Composition: The pic really nicely fills the frame.
Technical: I like the lighting and the focus is excellent too. I might have used slightly less sharpening so the eyes and teeth aren't quite so bright. I like the border too.
Overall impression: Best portrait pic I've seen in a while. 8

this is a terrific picture of an attractive face .. very compelling. one of my faves. only thing is there seems some level of overprocessing in the pixels .. not deducting pts because the rest of the pic is so good :)

This is an excellent closeup portrait.. the diagonal orientation works nicely here.. I also like the nice catch light in the subject's eyes... great shot :) = 10 - setzler

This is my ultimate fav foto of this week and for the past 4 mnths. The skin textures are delicate and with impeccable tone. The eye highlights are much nicer than studio squares. The skin highlights are exceptional, still bright but with pore texture. The elegant eyelashes and touch of earlobe accent the facial features very tastefully. A lovely casual intent smile. If there was a top score for the year at DPC this would likely be a winning candidate. What a stunning masterpiece. Outstanding technical and creative image. Please keep up the marvelous work to make the rest of us jealous.

to answer the question... because a kid is a kid is a kid... unless he/she is doing something interesting. To the parents the kid is great and cute, etc. to the rest of the world he/she is just another person's kid.. Nice lighting btw 8

Nice lighting. I would have preferred a happier expression but it does fit the title.

Absolutely Beautiful. I am thrilled with the exposure and the beautiful sparkling eyes. The lighting is soft which, I think, really makes those eyse pop more.

I love his expression. Give the kid an "A" for acting. This is a fantastic macro. I love the skin texture. What we'd give to have that skin texture again. A little shadow from the nose, but not bad. Love how you cropped it. This is just fantastic. Maybe in color? Still ranks high.
