I am NOT a portrait photography. despite my best efforts to learn the craft, I struggle to get lighting right. Some of my worst scoring images, to include a self portrait of me in uniform, are photos of people. So, I have broken from the mold and submitted two straight challenges with people in them. The first being my daughter, and the second being a self portrait.
Set up was a black background, camera on a tripod, one 300W moonlight with a 36" octagonal soft box and a speed light on the fill side. I had my wireless remote in my jacket pocket and used that to trigger the camera. I was originally going to do this shot with my daughter, but she was whining a bit too much, so plan B was for a selfie.
I used a paintbrush in Camera Raw to increase the exposure, with the warmth turned all the way up to create the glow in the lantern. I wish I could have gotten a more realistic flame in the lantern, but it just wasn't working. Maybe I should have added a small bulb for realism. Next time....
Go easy on me, I am not a portrait photographer!!! |

I liked your shot. What technique did you use to make it look like snow? |

Well, it's certainly a wonderful portrait. Were you out in the snow? Anyway, huge congrats on your Blue and new PB.

I'm bumping this one up, it's definitely ribbon worthy. I would have probably loved to have seen context maybe, a wider view perhaps. |

Diogenes in winter. I see sincerity and determination on his face; his clarity of purpose is matched by the clarity of this depiction. Well done. |

You mean you did not take this type of shots before? Well, too bad because the light is excellent. The style reminds me of a DPCer of several years ago |
