 Originally took this pic as a possible entry for the Van Gogh challenge. While it's not the most flattering pic, it is a pic of someone who made a tremendous difference in my life and who brought me huge amount of happiness. May sound corny, but true. But then things changed drastically, and while they slowly seem to be on the mend, they won't ever be the same again. Guess that's why I used this somewhat stalwart, guarded portrait to show the side of him that I see now.

Hello from the critique club

An appealing image that meets the challenge well.

A great portrait Susan. Excellent use of low key technique, it gives a gritty impression like someone who has emerged from underground labour, he has a determined confident look about him. This really is a minor point but given the low-key nature of the portrait I do find his stubble highlighted rather more than I would like but its not a major issue at all.

On a personal note I’m so pleased for you that your relationship is improving, try to be open-minded as you can, I’m sure the things that you found so attractive before are all still there waiting to be enjoyed againâ€Â¦

I think this is a strong portrait, warts and all, It shows to me the essence of a Hard working man, who has seen a lot in his life time

I love dark images, but I feel the whites could have been a bit brighter in this wonderful portrait.
